Hi,
In the french forum a question about Wisigoths and Ostrogoths. Why Wisigoths are "average" and Ostrogoths are "Superiors". It's only because there are on horses ?

The Wisigothic cavalry are Superior too, and Ostrogothic infantry are Average.

The Ostrogothic cavalry represent the upper echelons of their society, whereas their lower echelons served as foot archers. The Wisigothic foot are a more homogenous mixture.

This is the basis on which most irregular armies' cavalry are graded as Superior whereas their foot are mostly Average - in the absence of special evidence of extraordinary battlefield prowess. It is a matter of social status and consequent self-esteem, which tended to equate with battle-readiness and enthusiasm, especially in warrior societies.

You are of course at liberty to disagree with this analysis.
