Just wondering what folks use for these. Given the protected classification in FoG it would seem inappropriate (and confusing) to simply use LRR legionaires. Any suggestions for appropriate figures?

Definitely a good suggestion, though since the Pontic army also has thureophoroi I would wonder about differentiating between the two troop types. I haven't uncovered much information about how imitation legionaires appeared historically--since FoG classifies them as protected rather than armored that would mean mail would be out--I'd assume they might appear like earlier hastati perhaps minus the little bronze breastplate, or perhaps like hellenistic thureophoroi only with a pila/heavy javelin rather than a long spear.

There are 15mm imitation legionaries available for Numidian armies by Magister Militum and Corvus Belli; in each case they have tunics without armour and oval shields with central rib (celtic/spanish style) and a conical helmet, armed with sword. Perhaps these might fit the bill?

They work well with a paler skin tone than the web sites' examples (why do some persist in painting numidians to look sub-saharan); the MM figs come as a single pose (great for the "drilled" look) but the CB ones are luvverly sculpts and great to paint

Use roman legionaries with hellenistic helmets heads... only if you are skilled at cutting heads and you can spare the extra figurines

The problem with this - as daleivan points out in the top post - is that the lists class imitation legionaries, be they pontic or numidian or other, as protected rather than armoured, hence the need to look for suitably unarmoured figures to approximate to them (and the reason I and others have avoided roman figures with or without conversion). It's an even bigger headache in 10mm scale, the closest to numidian "fakes" I can see so far are magister militum's carthaginian citizen spear which could do as near matches with the spear cunningly painted as a pilum...

I can't begin to imagine trying to convert a 10mm figure. It has been suggested to me to try and look for a "penal legionaire" figure (and thus presumably not wearing any metal armor--probably only a tunic but still equipped with a scutum and pilum). Your suggestion to use a numidian imitation legionaire figure is a good one for 15mm-- I do like the look of Corvus Belli's, at least in the online photo.

They are very nice models to paint too. Variety of poses, some bearded/some not, none with the numidian "ringlet" hairstyle to look incongruous. Be warned the shields come separately and need to be firmly/reliably attached; superglue gel is best for hold & gap-filling in one go. I've been very impressed by the quality of all the Corvus Belli figures I've seen and won't hesitate to get more - another 2 BGs of numidian horse and general element just rolling off the production line currently, closely to be followed by a mixed batch of foot

These sound like very nice figures--I look forward to picking some up.

I used Magister Militum "Polybian" romans for my pontic imitation legionnaires with the helmet crests cut off. I mixed Hastati and Principes figures for a bit of a mix, in retrospect I should probably have thrown in a pack of penal legionnaires as well:
