Routers path partially blocked by enemy

One in a game at the club last night.

A routing BG had an enemy BG partially blocking it's rout, if the routers shifted to avoid the enemy (less than 1 base width) then they would have to burst through a friendly BG to get away.

I had a look at various rules and in the end came to the comclusion that as the routers could not avoid all the obstacles then they could not shift, as they could not shift they stoppped 1 MU from the enemy and as a result were cut down without bursting through the friendly BG.

Thoughts?

That is exactly what I decided would happen in one of my games at the weekend. I don't think there can be any doubt that that is the effect of the rules.

i.e. If routers cannot shift to avoid everything in their path, they don't shift at all.

I actually think this is fairly well covered.

You can shift upto a base width to avoid friends, enemies, difficult going etc. However, if you burst through friendly BG's then you aren't allowed to shift.

However it then goes onto state

"if the above would not allow all front rank elements to complete their evade move."

Which they can't, because they can't burst through enemy and they can't shift and burst through friends. So they must

"Halt 1 MU from enemy with no shifting or contraction being allowed at all"

I asked them if they wanted my opinion, but they said there was no point as I didn't know the rules :P

Evaders stop 1 MU away from enemy, but routers are destroyed if they can't bypass enemy (p108). In both cases there is no burst through.

Looks a little strange, but that's FOG. Assume the friends were not going to open their ranks with all those enemy in the vicinity.

this reminds me of a recent game where I am not sure we got it right.


Enemy BG is frag and breaks as a result of a charge by 2 BGs. One coming up the rear and one in the front. It had another enemy BG on one end.

We played it routed like an evade and ran 90 degrees toward its open side. Of course it was caught but i half wondered if we got it right.

(From p 100) You bisect the angle between the two charging BGs, so you did it right.
