If this was asked before I apologize. I am looking at the rules on page 144 concerning Flank marches. If I have an Allied General and 4 BG can he do a Flank march? One para says "Each outflanking march must include a single commander and at least 1 to 3 battlegroups." However the next para states "An allied commander can only make an outflanking march with troops of his own allied contingent and must take his whole contingent."

So do I need to trim my list so that the Allied General has no more than 3 BG? or can he take 4 BG if this is his whole contingent?

You need to trim your list to only three allied BGs or take the really strange option of flank marching three BGs from the ally with a sub commander leading them then make sure that the allied commander can get close enough to them when they arrive. I wouldn't recommend the later option BTW
