What makes the game replayable?

I was wondering that aside from the scenarios and multiplayer, what makes the game replayable? I know games like Pike and Shot and Sengoku Jidai have the random skirmish generator and I am loving those features from those games so I was wondering if something similar exists for field of glory?

You can pick from hundreds of army lists and within each list are thousands of possible combinations (probably tens of thousands or millions - I didn't try and work it out!) and you can take any of these armies against any other army in single or multiplayer so there are huge options.

Wait. So basically the close to $200AUD I spent is a huge toybox where I can pit any army that I want against eachother even the ones I made myself? Wow. I am getting excited. I never knew about the army and whatnot. How do I access the army creation and stuff and are there any information about the units and in-game stuff like the books included in Sengoku Jidai special edition?

In the base game you get 2 armies and each expansion adds around 20 armies plus variants. Where you design your armies is called the Digital Army Generator. You then load up these pre designed armies in the scenarios. Some people spend hours just designing and tweaking their army.
