Unit textures

Am loving the game. I have had my Parliamentarian ass handed back to me on a plate so many times! Starting to get the hang of ECW tactics and winning the occassional game after a slug fest.

I want to try a GNW mod. I can create new units on the Squad.csv file and produce my own unit graphics. I have been looking at the other mods, the battle of Aughrim in particular. In this battle, each unit has its own graphics.

I want to create a unit texture for each regiment but keep getting this warning when the editor shuts down: "Failed to load required asset file JAK_SW_HALSINGE" I suspect there is an issue with the file naming convention and possibly where I locate the texture.

How do you link a specific unit texture with a specific unit on the unit.csv file?

Any advice welcome.

It sounds like you have given this unit a new AssetFileName (JAK_SW_HALSINGE) in the Squads file. If you do that, you have to create a new JAK_SW_HALSINGE.S4f (or .S3f) file in the Data/Battle/Units folder, otherwise you get the error message that you describe.

Luckily, it is rarely necessary to use new AssetFileNames, just use the appropriate existing AssetFileName (ie; Pike_Musket_Veteran_RG), then you can use up to 32 different folders in the Data/Battle/UnitTextures folder to put the regimental .dds files. It is best to use the 21 standard named folders (ECW_Parliamentarian, ECW_Royalist etc) and then the extra 11 folders can be called whatever you want. You then allocate the correct texture to the unit in the editor.

It is quite complex, one day I will have to write a guide on how to do all of this texture work, I have discovered a lot about it since I started modding.

My first GNW scenario (Narva 1700) will be available very soon, I sent it to Richard for approval yesterday, I hope you like it. Feel free to use any graphics from it if you wish.

Cheers
