cursed levels of indecision

OK, I admit it, I cant decide what to use at Britcon.
why oh why is it all one big theme.

My thoughts go something like this

EAP - great shooty troops but in serious trouble against knights and MF Auxilaries
LAP - good mix light spear and shooty cav, could give other mounted armies some problems, cant face armoured foot or knights.
Alex Mac - lots of good stuff but what are you going to do about super shooty cav (die seems to be the answer)

so maybe a knight army - but then what do you do if you face a spear army?

Maybe longbows, but those pesky armoured MF romans are gonna give them a problem. Could longbows take on shooty cav on mass?

I just cant make up my mind

Doesn't tradition demand you take an army you don't have and so spend the week before painting and basing?

A good question, I think the answer is we are still not sure how many players there will be for FoG so splitting or otherwise theming would have been rather a risk. Next year things may well be different....

Paul

find the most complicated list with the greatest variety of options and leave your opponent guessing what will be in your army.

If only I was following my own advice.

p.s. don't listen to Phil. That's his answer to everything. At the Challenge I'm sure he said that at the Bar when I asked him what he was drinking. Mind you I think he started on the beers at 11. That's AM. :D

Phil

what happened to the Beer Vouchers we got for winning the Quiz?

one of the things I am really trying to avoid this year!

My levels of indecision are killing me

so far today its been (ie to the level of writing a list and counting out bases and constructing figure orders/digging out unpainted lead)
EAP
LAP
Alex Mac
HYW English
WOTR
Ordonnonce French
Burgundian (both varieties)
Santa Thingy Wotsit
3 flavours of Byzantine

last thought - hmm maybe a could paint a whole Ghilman army in a month

arghhhhhhhhhhh

Determine which army by chance. If you lose you can blame the Fates; win, and it's skill.

Now you only need to decide which form of lottery to choose.

Take the Alex Mac. That way when it does not work you are 70% of the way to a Successor army or 2, so less new lead is required to change it.

Take Med Spanish variant or Med Cypriot. Knights, spear and LH.

Ah, here we go again. There seems to be a wave developing that the never defeated, all conquering Med Cypriot are justifiably the killer FoG army. We have seen similar things in the past in other rules sets. Lets hope we do not find this with FoG.

Never realised. I know JD used Cypriot in Helsinki with some success. All conquering? Has it done well elsewhere?

not convinced by the Cypriot all conquering bit - 4 wins out of 16 games at Chester doesnt sound all that conquering to me.

maybe more of a draw-meister (or is that just the nature of the doubles competition)

Sundays chill out day didn't work,I was so tired my brain felt like mush, mind you that is probably the best condition to work a list out in.its certainly how I play .
The problem now is seeing the other thread ref beating shooty cav,do we go along with that or find something to beat the shooty cav beaters or do we need to think deeper and go for the shooty cav beaters beaters :?

Ive followed that spiral down and down and down - im at shooty cavalry as the army of choice at the moment

shooty cav
trumped by - knights, amoured foot, armoured lancers

lancers
trumped by knights or spear or longbow

knights
trumped by spear or longbow

(looks good for armoured spear armies so)

armoured spear
beaten up by pike or impact foot or terrain

so go for the hellenistic pikes or romans

who get shot to pieces by shooty cav

its all too exciting (and confusing)

On the bright side it is always a good thing when no single army or type of army is an obvious choice :D

it not a complaint - it is definatly a good thing

Its just me being indecisive.
I am pretty sure there is no such thing as a super troop or super army list in Fog. There havent been enough open comps for fashions in list type to come into play.
