Old Games

After over a year and a half of playing nothing but Panzer Corps, I have been inspired by Braccada to pick up an old school game.

Baldur's Gate

I have the Enhanced Edition on Steam and am trying The Legacy of Bhaal difficulty level. YIKES!!!

Are there any other old games that you keep going back to?

Yep - Playing BG II myself. In my earlier days I never got through it. Steam version is nice. I just turn off the recent cartoon characters graphics - but other than that - very nicely done.

I also go back to Master of Orion II - for me, it's still the best 4x game in town. Tons of games have stated that they are the "spiritual successor to MOO" but none have hit the mark like MOO II. Got it from GOG - runs nicely in an adjustable Res Dos Box - no issues at all.

Also Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate - IMO the best 40k computer game ever produced. I also got this from GOG. Not as stable as MOO certainly. You really need to have no other programs running and no pop ups etc from anti-virus or it will break. I've gotten past a few campaign maps though and it can work.

I play a little Final Lib as well but after the milking the Green Cow has gotten recently - I am all "Orked Out" ....

Edit: And occasionally KOTR II - with all the Steam updates / fixes is really nice. Playing a Sith Lord with Force Storm and Life Drain - really let's me vent some good work rage - while staying completely legal. =)

Hearts of Iron 2?

I have never played that before.

Any games that you would compare it to?

I would compare it to Hearts of Iron IV  - or for that matter any Paradox Game. Basically it is a real-time global ww2 game.

Its $4 on steam at the moment. If you get it and don't enjoy it, it won't be much of a loss.

My brother received Hearts of Iron 4 for Fathers Day this year and I was over at his house yesterday.

That looks so in depth and fun if I didn't have 8 kids and I learned some of the complexities of the game maybe I would be into but at this point in my life I cannot afford that kind of time and energy into a game like that.

Yikes!

A lot...can't name them all.

Master of Orion 1 and 2, Imperium Romanum, Star Trek Birth of the Federation, Spartan/GoT, Civil War II Generals just to mention a few.
