Not sure where to ask. How do aircraft (P47, B17's etc) repair if no airfield has been captured?
What are the stars on the map for? Do aircraft exit via star on map?

To repair larger planes and refuel you will need capture airbase.

For smaller planes you can use carrier for refueling and repairs if no carrier then you will need capture an airbase before running out fuel.

Yes, stars on the map are usually exit points. Core units that leave the map via an exit point are returned to reserves, and the slot is freed up for a new deployment. So, for example, if a plane is badly damaged or can't refuel, you can fly it out, and if you have reserves, you can immediately deploy another one.
