Air wings & CV attack range? Especially after Tech Upgr

The reason is that I want these ranges is to know when my naval and ground units are within coverage of (i.e., protected by) my air wings & CVs. I see the movement range for air wings and CVs if I click on the unit. However; I don't see the attack range. Is there an easy way to figure out attack ranges for these units; without having to go into the data files? I know the attackable units and hexes within range are designated by a circle if you click on the unit; but I'd like to get the exact range especially after a Tech upgrade. Is there an easy way to do this? If not, was the suggested way?

You can go into the purchase screen, click on the unit in question as if you were going to buy one, and look at the numbers at the left. The upgraded strengths are in green.

The problem with this is that you're looking at a theoretical unit with your current max tech. Your actual units in the field (or at sea) may not be fully upgraded.

It's a good question, and one I have wondered about. Sorry I don't have an equally good answer.

I don't think the air wings represented by the CV's will intercept incoming enemy air units. So you have to gain air superiority prior to your fleets/transports getting into enemy air range.

I understand that CVs don't defend other targets against attacking air. They defend only themselves. However, here is a specific example. I want to see if a CV can attack a German u-boat and be protected by land base air if the u-boat(s) counterattack. I need to know the maximum attack range of the land base air wing and the maximum attack range of the CV in order to move it as close as I can to the defending air.

They do intercept.

I thought that the CV only intercepted in coming air when they were the target of the attack, but unlike land based air they will not interecept against an enemy air attack on say a friendly transport in an adjacent hex?

@possum. This seems the most straightforward way to figure attack range after or even before Tech upgrades, without having to dig into the data base. Thanks for the suggestion.

If possible it'd be nice if attack range could be added to the unit attributes panel in a future CEaW upgrade.

There would be at least 2 ways of doing that - one would be to add extra button just left of the railway move button. Looking at past CEAW patches I assume it is quite possible the devs will be reluctant to change the UI, so another proposal - add a hotkey that when pressed would highlight each and every hex that a given unit can attack (e.g. by placing the current attack "icon" on them). This should be very easy to code and yet of great help to all.

Oh hey, cool suggestion, Borsook! I like that idea very much :)
