Terrain Colors - All or Just for Snow?

I am noting that the all of the screenshots show a white ground color for the terrain. I am assuming this is for SNOW scenarios.

Question: for battles that took place during "non-snow" days are normal terrain colors used for the ground? If not - sorry I am not interested in the game. White ground tiles are hard on my vision.

(in fact in my design work with another game company - the snow terrain set is usually very unpopular)

I am hoping my fears are misplaced ... :D

Frankly I am not sure that selling a "non-collector's" version of the game was wise. Why? Because most of us will not want to be excluded from picking up any challenge and if we buy the standard game we will miss out on the other battles in the Collector's set.

Any reason why there are two versions of the game for sale? Seems like to buy the standard version sounds fine for the pocket book but in the long run you know how we are - we just hate to be left out.

It isn't actually white, more beige ;)

It is based on Japanese paintings of the era where the background is left as unpainted paper.

It is a bit of a culture shock at first, but you soon get used to it, and we think it is rather cool.

Don't worry, you won't go snow-blind playing this game.

Sorry Richard - it just doesnt fly with me :( ...

White/light grey backgrounds are like visual poison for me after too many years of sitting in front of a pc screen.

This would like saying that you should have used the lithograph colors of the prints from the 30 Years War engravings for the terrain for the Pike and Shot Campaigns game.

I would suggest that you query your customer base more before making such a decision. I know that if I tried to do this with a "winter Napoleonic campaign game" such as 1807, and not offered "Normal Terrain" terrain set scenarios for the guys to play that we would have a palace revolt on our hands.

Bottom line: some of us suffer from "screen glare" and its really hard to deal with it. I really love this period too .. Such a shame. Hoping you will consider an alternate terrain set for the battles.

Well I am sorry you find it hard on the eye. It would be easy enough to mod in the Pike and Shot tile set, and no doubt someone will do it soon.

Don't think we didn't consider it.

Actually I also have to admit that the overall look of the battlefields looks a bit worse than the green and more realistic battlefields of P&S... just personal taste anyway.

Yes, the woods of Japan are filled with Cheery trees and the Fall colors are similar to the US East Coast or the UK.

Sorry that you guys decided on this ... hope you folks enjoy the game, regardless!

I'm sure there will be a mod, but if the game gave us the option of more realistic colors, I would prefer that.

I get what you're saying Richard but I am on the fence as to whether I like it or not.

I'm still likely to buy - based upon the excellence of P & S but would appreciate a Dev issued option in future content to choose either more realistic terrain or the classic map based version.

A good reason why this kind of discussion could have taken place on the main Pike and Shot forum rather than just in design circles/beta forum.

Right now looking at this forum message window (its very white) is blurring my vision. LOL Aint age wonderful?

By the time I get anywhere near exhausting the scenarios of Pike and Shot (and I just got BA2 a month ago and have yet to really play it much) I am sure that someone will have come out with a Terrain Mod.

Actually I did raise this issue on the main board back in January when the first screenshots came out. I think it is in the Modders Corner, in a topic called something like "RELEASED: Yari and Teppo Mod". I think some others have queried the look of the terrain since then as well.

I thought I may get used to it in time, but it has not grown on me yet! I guess everyone has their preferences and I have noted that many people have posted to say that they actually prefer this to the P&S grass.

I am sure a modder will soon bring out an alternative terrain set, if nothing official is released.

It still looks a great game and I will be getting it as soon as my anniversary coupons arrive!

I plan to publish a Four Seasons Mod pack for P&S soon, that enables scenario designers to choose from 5 different terrain styles.
(Examples: http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtop ... 22&t=72288 and here: http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtop ... 22&t=72282 )

Anyone who wants to do a terrrain mod for Segoku Jidai is welcomed to use my stuff for his project.

Is the scenario editor used in the Pike and Shot series similar to that of BA2 or BA1? The newer editor in the former (BA2) has simplified some of the more complex terrain placement found in the latter (BA1).

When I built the missions for the BA:Fortress Metz module it took quite a bit of time to build one map. I hear that the newer editor is easier to work with.

It is more similar to the BA2 editor (SJ and P&S use the BA2 game engine) - although it has additional features, such as the ability to add generals and give units individual names.

Everyone was shocked with the paper ground tiles including myself. But it grew on me and made sense.
The effect kinda varies by monitor brand and setup.

I like the design but my eyes are young.

I can understand others opinions I am sure someone will mod, maybe in time the dev will add in choice during a patch.

It does go well with oriental art that its been taken from.

Just another vote on the side of not really liking the look and colors of the terrain.

I figure I'd speak up on the side of liking the terrain tiles. I feel they really give the game a period flavor.
