Starting last night, when I try to open the game, it just doesn't.

Note:

a) I installed the updated version, and the install appeared to go well.
b) I get the window that says the program wants to change something on my computer, and I say yes.

After that, nothing.

Do you have any file named Fatal at:
...\Documents\My Games\Polaris Sector

What I intended was that you posted the file, but I assumed that now you have deleted.

no, I did not delete the file. That is the interesting part.

Then you can read it (with a Windows notepad for example) as it can have logged the cause of the one crashes.

And here is what it said:

Cannot initialize display!

I guess now it can. Any ideas what triggers this?

You can try enter the game settings and activate "Force OpenGL" option.
