Battle of Alton

Richard has very kindly made my ECW Battle of Alton scenario available for download.
Thanks for your feed back on Powick Bridge. Hope you enjoy Battle of Alton. With Powick Bridge I would like it to be played either side, but I am not sure how to do that. As you say Parliament would certainly be more of a challenge.stefankollers wrote:Will play when I get the chance, by the way enjoyed your "Powick Bridge scenerio". I know Richard is a bit of a sadist, really suprised we were playing as the Royalists, I think it would have been far more difficult to play as Parliament, given that the Cavalry is inferior to the cavaliers, good little scenerio, can be really enjoyed and played through in less than an hour. So ideal for a quick battle. I personally like the longer battles, but not everyone can spend several hours playing out a large battle.
Hope you keep the scenerios coming best of luck.
Thanks for your comments and taking time to do the screen shot. Really pleased you enjoyed the battle. As I mentioned before in the real engagement an ancestor of mine, Colonel Richard Bole led the last stand in Alton Church, where he apparently died in the pulpit. I have visited Alton church and you can still see the musket ball holes in the building. There is also a small collection of other artefacts found at the site.Warlord156 wrote:Just finished this scenario, victory was mine. I was a little concerned at first, thought I would not be able to unit my forces. Held firm at the bridge and united the rest of the troops at the village, where I managed to repulse a number of assaults.
A very good scenario, intense and fast paced. Well done.
The engine doesn't allow a scenario to be played from either side. You have to make a separate mirror version of the scenario - swapping sides 0 and 1.OliversArmy wrote:With Powick Bridge I would like it to be played either side, but I am not sure how to do that.
Richard - I have done a lot of this kind of thing in game design over the years ... but doesn't Step 4 end up changing any of what you did in Step 2 to a "_1_"?rbodleyscott wrote:The engine doesn't allow a scenario to be played from either side. This is relatively easy to do as follows:
First make a copy of the scenario .BAM file. You will find this in /My Documents/My Games/PSCAMP/CAMPAIGNS/MyCampaignName/SCENARIOS
Change the name of the file so you can distinguish the two versions.
Then open the file in a text editor (NOT a word processor). You can download "Notepad++" for free.
Then follow these steps in order:
1 - Swap the values of SIDEID0 and SIDEID1
2 - Search for "_0_" replace with "_2_"
3 - Search for "_1_" replace with "_0_"
4 - Search for "_2_" replace with "_1_"
5 - Change UNITCOUNT_0 to UNITCOUNT_1
6 - Change UNITCOUNT_1 to UNITCOUNT_0
When you load the file in the editor, Side0 will have become Side 1 and vice versa. The map will remain the same.
I really appreciate how folks doing these custom/additional scenarios add in the unit names or geographical feature names! Really adds in that extra bit of historical accuracy that I enjoy! Thanks!OliversArmy wrote:Richard has very kindly made my ECW Battle of Alton scenario available for download.
That is the idea. Step 2 results in a dummy value 2 that the game cannot use. Valid Sides are only 0 or 1. Step 2 is necessary so that you can switch it to 1 later after you move those that are currently 1 to 0 which is now vacant.Old_Warrior wrote:Richard - I have done a lot of this kind of thing in game design over the years ... but doesn't Step 4 end up changing any of what you did in Step 2 to a "_1_"?rbodleyscott wrote:The engine doesn't allow a scenario to be played from either side. In other words ... after having changed the "_0_" values for "_2_" in Step 2 wont that get superceded by what you do in Step 4?
