Philippines Campaign 1941

This is a custom campaign where you'll lead a Japanese battalion with support units through 13 scenarios.
Campaign notes:
I have tried to make the scenarios fairly difficult, they do not start out easy and get more difficult as you progress.
There are a lot of rice fields in the maps. I'm not particularly fond of this terrain graphic wise, I think they are a bit bland and do not blend too well with other terrain elements.
i have tried to spruce the map up with additional decorations to prevent too much sameness.
Please add any comments in this thread.
Have fun!
Erik

Erik, give us a full Pacific war campaign, you know you want to
Loved your Betio island scenario, this is how i wish the entire game was like. Will give this Philippine campaign a go though, even if i prefer playing as the Yanks

Thank you
I've just updated the Betio scenarios, giving both the multiplayer and the single player scenarios free deployment in addition to replacing the US Army with proper Marine units.
Check out the scenario forum if you're interested.

Well, the map & stuff is actually less than I want.
But it is quite complex adding the flags and arrow stuff in a txt file. So I've hold that back until we get some kind of campaign editor.

Erik -- I just download this. Placed the folder in the game directory under "Campaigns" - along w/tutorial, allies, japan, etc. When I launch the game and go to Single Player, I don't see it anywhere. What might I be doing incorrectly?

You need to copy the Philippines folder to My Games -> OOBsomething ->Campaigns
Then Main menu -> Single player and click on Custom content. There you can select custom campaigns.

Erik, is your campaign for single-player, multiplayer or both? Thanks.

It is a single player campaign, least it was when I "tested" it.

MP campaigns can't be made with the current version of the game. The MP screen only has a list of scenarios.

where the heck is the "Custom content" button/ui element? I don't see it on the OS X version of the game.

I have the Mac version. The bottom of the Campaign dialog looks nothing like yours. The files are in the right place, I think. Any ideas?

Thanks.
This was a bit o\f experiment to see if OOB would work at the platoon level.
And it looks like the game system handles it well even though the artillery ranges are really too short for the map scale.

It’s irritating that you fail the secondary flag-objects at beginning by occupying US units in all missions. Can’t you remove all these many unnecessary US triggers? Either the player occupies the flag-hexes or not. The AI shouldn’t really matter as long as it isn’t a defensive or keep-alive objective.
The first mission was quite tough figuring out the right starting units, but afterwards I'm doing fine so far. Can’t really see more rice paddies in the end for sure!

Do you mean that you get a victory as soon as you capture all primary objectives?
That is the basic mechanism of the game.
I could add another event that would force the Japanese to play all turns, thus making sure you get a shot at the secondary objectives.
But not all players like to keep hitting the turn button when the have already finished the scenario.
In an earlier game version there was a check-mark in the editor for allowing players to keep on playing after all primaries were met.
I hope the devs add it back again.
As for the starting units, originally I designed the campaign with undeployed historical units. But most players probably think it is more fun to buy your own.
There are reinforcement messages during play that indicate what kind of units entered historically.
For the first scenario, you can may start with 2 artillery units and 12 (I think) infantry units. I did all my testing using fixed units.

About the US triggers: e.g. in Agoo, there is a "Jap Road Block" and a "US Road Block" trigger checking for ownership. As far as there is already an US unit on that road block it will trigger and tell the game the object has failed on the second turn or so. That's what I meant what I don't understand why you created such US triggers. I've played through all missions now and it was the same over and over again with most secondary objectives. Sure, you can accomplish them during the scenario later when you capture those flag hexes, but it's still irritating for people that are used to the capture objectives in the vanilla campaigns. I bet most people think they failed and can't accomplish these objectives anymore. For example, the "Jap Road Block" trigger alone would already do the job too, don't you think?
Well, it was kind of frustrating in the end that the Babyan primary objective wasn't triggering in the last two turns, so I had a draw/defeat. Boo! I checked in the editor but couldn't find a mistake. Doesn't matter, I call it a minor victory, as I didn't bother about the bunkers. The other ground units were all defeated in the end.
The beginning was tough, the middle rather an easy rush, but the last scenarios I ran out of credits and couldn't afford reinforcing half of my units anymore. I play with my own gameplay mod, so my experience is not the same as someone with vanilla settings. Anyway, thanks, it was fun ride to Bataan for sure!
