I have a problem trying to run the game on my new computer.

I have the entire game and all the add-ons I bought years ago, but had to convert them to Steam, which I did, and I downloaded them thru steam. After I did, and ran the game I can barely see the screens, and so I tried to change the resolution. Changing the resolution didn't help at all, so I figured I needed a patch.

I found the patch 1.25 and downloaded it, but when I tried to install the patch it says my system can't detect that I have the original game installed on my computer. I am thinking somehow it doesn't know I have it since I am running it thru steam?

I am not sure what to do, I love the game, worked great on my old computer. But I lost all that when I bought my new Alienware, and
now running everything thru steam, I ran into this problem that I can't figure out how to fix.

Can anyone help me??

You do not need and can't apply normal patches to the Steam game version. Steam is keeping your game automatically up to date (unless you have manually disabled this option in the steam client).

My guess is your new computer got the dpi resolution changed. You can find the settings for this somewhere in the display settings. Where exactly depends on the Windows version you are using. For Widows 10 see here, for Windows 8 here and for Windows 7 here. Remember your old setting, set it then to 100% and try the game. Hopefully this fixes the problem. If after the game your desktop looks to small or big for you, you should change the setting back to the value your remembered.
