If you have any problems launching the game (instead crash or black screen), download this file and extract its content (options.dat) into the folder specified below:

PC: \Documents\My Games\Order of Battle - WW2\Settings
Mac: Users\<username>\Order of Battle - WW2\Settings

This should start the game in 1024x768 resolution, windowed mode, with the intro video disabled.

You can change it later. This way you're be able to run the game and go to the options menu, otherwise you couldn't reach the options menus.

Do you have the Order of Battle: Pacific installed or Order of Battle: WW2?

Please do the following:
Delete the Settings folder that can be found in the Windows documents folder at:
...\Documents\My Games\Order of Battle - Pacific
Run the game and check if the issue persists.

Please open a new forum thread and attach a DxDiag report file in your message.

How to get a DxDiag report file:

1. Click on "START" (on Windows 8/10 press “Windows key” and the “R” key at the same time)
2. Click "run" (skip this step on Windows 8/10)
3. Type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. Check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. Click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice
6. Attach the file to your post

Hello,

Just updated the game to the latest version, and when I did, once again I came up with the problem of it loading to a black screen.

I looked in the following:

My Documents > My Games > Order of Battle - WW2 > Settings

where I have two options files:

options.dat

and

options_backup_2016-12-16 15-15-22.dat

Assuming the problem is caused by windowed display mode (and this happens each time I update it), should I delete one or both of these options files? Or do something else? I don't know why I keep getting the black screen after launch each time it updates.

Thanks in advance for any help.

@svenleader
Delete the Settings folder.

Thanks for the answer. It worked at first, and then it didn't.

I deleted the settings folder. Then I loaded the game and it allowed me to access options to adjust windows mode + screen res. No problems.
But then I tried to log on to the server to retrieve a game, and I got a warning saying "This is not the current version". Went to the update button, pushed it, and it said "You already have the latest version." So I ping-ponged back and forth on this, finally giving up and uninstalling/reinstalling the game.

Downloaded/Installed the original free "OOB: WWII" game again; then updated to the latest version.

Tried to open it again and black screen. So I went in and deleted the 'settings' folder again. Reload. Black screen. Looked in the settings folder (which is apparently recreated each time the game is loaded after deletion?) and all that's in there is a single item: 'theme'. Tried this a couple times including after full reboot and no change.

Sorry for the trouble here--thanks for helping out.

Download the file on the original post and replace the file in your Settings folder.

My apologies--thanks for being patient and taking the time to help.

Still no joy. Inside of the My Documents > My Games > Order of Battle - WW2 > Settings Folder , I've (had) the following six files:

hotkeys.dat
options.dat
serials.dat
theme
tutorial.dat
unlocked.dat

The 'options.dat' is from the link above; I've tried deleting the Settings Folder entirely (as per earlier post), rebooting, then unzipping the options.dat file above into the newly-created (but empty) Settings Folder. Tried loading with just options.dat (black scr), then with options.dat and themes (black scr) and with all six of the above files in Settings. Nothing but black screen on each attempt. Maybe if you could tell me what should be in the Settings Folder to get access to the controls? Sorry again for the noob questions--appreciate your help very much. Definitely need to figure out what happened and prevent it on the next update.

Uninstall the game and rename " Order of Battle - WW2" as "_ Order of Battle - WW2" on "Documents\My Games" folder.
Install the game and run it without updating.
Do you still get a black screen?

Problem solved--game updated; prior games restored.
So I assume that the next time I get an update alert, I should just switch it over to Windows mode to adjust screen res, update, then change back to non-Windows mode afterwards.

Thanks very much for your help.
