Waypoint question

Never being ashamed of embarassing myself in public I've given up on figuring this one out on my own. I could have sworn it was in the game, but I may be having a senior moment and confusing OoB Pacific/Rising Sun/Marines with another game.

How do you specify exactly what path a unit is going to follow to keep it from blundering into things you don't want it to?

It seems like every time I want a unit to move to the outer edge of its movement range, it wants to go there by the worst possible route. This is especially annoying when trying to conduct a search with airplanes.

I'm reasonably sure that you need to use multiple long-distance commands, setting one after another, as the closest facsimile. They discussed it last year in this thread:

And as mentioned in that thread, even being able to set just one waypoint would make a huge difference.

there appears no real interest from slitherin in adding this feature, but they DID add a feature where your units will choose a better path if you scout ahead and expose a unit it would have run into otherwise. hence, the value of fast ground recon units.
