Just used my 11-year anniversary coupon to buy the OoB series and I'm excited to dig in. The Pacific War has always struggled to get the attention that the Western/Eastern Fronts have and it sounds like these developers have made a real commitment here.
I'm also REALLY excited about the upcoming skirmish mode. Is there an approximate timeframe for its beta/realease?

That's one of the things that got me excited about the game; the Pacific War, that is. The best that I had ever seen previously was John Tiller's Campaign Series which featured the Rising Sun Campaign but that was light on air and sea operations. This game is the first in my experience that combines air, sea, and land operations well. I like sea battles and aerial combat!
Regarding the skirmish mode, somebody dug up an old thread (

Whilst I'm glad something is doing the Pacific War, I'm a bit dismayed by how US-centric it is. As Japan, a battle doesn't seem to be in the game unless it somehow involves at least one US unit. Everything else happens "off screen". And the Chinese expansion doesn't let you play as the Chinese! (Presumably because they're not the US?

)
I'd really like the next expansion to allow the player to be Commonwealth/Dutch/China/non-US .
