Looking for suitable miniatures for Equites Sagittarii to the early part of the Principate list. I hve only found references to Equites Sagittarii at later dates, how would they look like at ca 100AD?

Great! Thanks Scott!
I had hoped soo, have 4 bases of scythians

but got signals from a friend that the sagittarii should be "roman-like".

The sagittarii units of the principate were initially mainly drawn from the Thracians and Arabs (IIRC) and later on units from Osroehne were added. I can't recall any units that appear to have been drawn from the Skythians so I'd avoid that sort of figure.
Of course as part of the Roman military they would no doubt look fairly Roman even if initially they looked more "native". However, that said I'd not be surprised if the units continued with some things from their origins as tradition.

hmm.. not good.. I have Corvus Belli miniatures but they dont do roman horse archers. I was thinking i could convert ordinary roman cav but they have mail+helmet and the sagittarii are unprotected. The only suggestion for a roman horse archer ive got is from essex, but those are limited to one pose
Any ideas for suitable miniatures?

I think that Nik and I may be more in agreement than might appear at first blush. As far as I am aware, the terms "Syrian" and "Arab" are pretty much interchangeable for the EPR period. And if there was a significant difference in appearance between Scythian and Thracian horse archers, that would be news to me.
Xyston Scythian horse archers:

Xyston Thracian/Getic horse archers:

So go ahead and use your Scythians for the Equites Sagittarii - or just call them "Thracians" instead.
Cheers,
Scott

At about 100AD - the date asked about - I still doubt they'd look anything other than pretty "Roman". Its dubious that they'd even be recruited from their ethnic origin any more unless they were still in the area.

ok, essex´s horse archers, there is one late imperial and one byzantine.. (rather large timwarp), would they be more suitable (feels pretty wrong to me)?

Is there any pictures to be found of the ca 100AD Sagittarii? considering that the aux archers are mailed, would it be impossible that the/some Sagittarii were aswell?

I've used both of those and, IMO, the "Byzantine" one is the nicer one.

So here comes the finished results. I bought minis from blackhat and must say im rather dissapointed. There are only 2 poses for the riders and only a single one for the horse(!). 2 poses for the riders, and somewhat dull ones, would have been ok if they could have supplied some more for the horses. I mixed in some from other manufactorers to make it deasent atleast.
