“There are only two kinds of people that understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion.”
Gen. William Thornson, U.S. Army
With the release date of
Order of Battle: U.S. Marines drawing near, we have decided to prepare a little treat for everyone interested in the WW2 era: some
infographics showing the maps and interesting facts from three of the eleven new scenarios included in this expansion. Which is completely focused on the “uncommon valor” of the American Marines in the Pacific Theatre.
Order of Battle: U.S. Marines is the second expansion for
Order of Battle: Pacific and it’s due to release on
7th April.

Please note that the infographic on Guadalcanal has an error; namely that the correct designation is the 1st Marine Division; not 1st Marines Division. 1st Marines is the correct name of the 1st Marine Regiment, one of three regiments comprising the 1st Marine Division. When using a regimental number, the appropriate designation is "Marines", but not for designating a Marine Division.

You got it wrong on Iwo Jima, too. Those should be the 4th Marine Division, 5th Marine Division and 6th Marine Division. I guess game folks don't understand Marines either.

Okay, I also made a mistake -- it was the 3rd, 4th and 5th Marine Divisions that landed on Iwo.

I think the Morning Sun one had a bigger error, namely that 40% of the world's population fought in one of the battles.

I would recommend a book of Eric Hammel "Iwo Jima". There are many unique photos and descriptions (e.g. all Marines fighting there, who were awarded the Medal of Honor and detailed description "for what").
