To be even-handed...

Loved the Late Roman (Dominate) list. It is my OTA.
All my dreams came true. A plethora of options. A yardstick by which other lists can be measured.
A bunch of supporting psiloi/light foot disappeared in transition from the DBM list, but most adherents knew from credible sources that the potential 1 base to 1 base ratio was wrong anyway so entered into any purchasing decisions on an informed basis. As Nik said - just paint more infantry for them to support
cheers

The real OTA is, of course, Burgundian Ordonnance - IIRC the phrase was coined for that army by Ken Blackley the best part of 10 years ago on the DBM mailing list (Stanford days for those old enough ...)

I believe that to be a OTA the army needs to have been in the single-book of lists WRG published many moons ago. About 50 of them approx IIRC.

Yep, there were 40 lists if I remember.
The Japanese list was either 3 or 4 lines long.
Late Romans had a page and could have up to 130 figs of legionarii, and pretty much more than they would ever need of anything they might ever want.
In contrast, virtually all of the Aurelianic/Middle Imperial list was prescribed. By the time you had bought the compulsory stuff you only had chump change to buy anything else.
We have come a long way in 2+ decades...
Good times
cheers

Not a definition I've heard of, but then again I've been immersed in DBM for the past decade so if it was used outside of that sphere I'll have missed it

Well I started playing WRG ancients 33 years ago, it might have been 34. 3rd edition 25mm and I was commanding the right wing of a Viking army.

I started 37 years ago with London Wargames Section Ancient Rules. My first ever battle was the Battle of Pelennor Fields.
However, I soon switched to WRG Ancients 2nd edition (with amendments).
