Graphics speed on Laptop

Greetings and happy new year!
I still play CoW, it's the one I like the most of all I have (Europa Universalis, Legion, Troy and Sparta), probably by the combination of variety and game setup, plus those wonderful units...
Something odd I also noticed with Legion: on my PC box both run great, on the laptop (hp nx9105, with an ATI card) they run slow (Legion) and impossibly slow (CoW) despite the fact that laptop's been able to play very demanding 2D and 3D games...
is there any way CoW is not activating the hardware acceleration or something like that? is there any combination of features in XP (directx 9.1) to make it run at playable speeds (color, compatibility, etc...)? while at home I can use the bigger box, but on the go, the laptop is my playing platform and I really fancy a good CoW during the holidays...
thanks and best regards... have a great year and let's see that Legion Arena (and CoW 2???)

You could also trying playing in a window. CoW uses DX7 IIRC, and your drivers might have dropped the ball, seeing as it's fairly old now.
simply add
FULLSCREEN 0
to the user.txt file in the DATA directory of the game.
Cheers

Hi!
Thanks for your help...
The thing with this is that Legion goes a bit slow, but it's acceptable, however CoW takes forever to move an army, the AI turn and even to move the mouse around, and it has happened with all the last versions of DirectX (7.x,8.x, and 9.x) I have on tha Windows XP Home Edition box...

That works (i.e., CoW starts as a window, but it's only half screen and horribly distorted, and in violet tones) but it doesn't solve the problem...
Apparently, the drivers I have are the best for that ATI card, I am a bit at a lost with this thing...
While I search and get the new Legion Arena (which must eat a lot of CPU and GPU power; haven't seen it yet on stores in Spain, but I have seen some ads on magazines), are there any plans for a CoW2 or an Uranium Edition?
thanks for all and have a great 2006!
best regards,
PS- I'll try to make sure I have the lastest drivers for my card, despite what windows update may tell me, and let you know...

Hi Excalibor,
Nice to see another Spaniard here. Bienvenido.
Try Centromail-games, El Corte Ingl?©s and FNAC if in your city (they have the game, at least here in BArcelona).

If you run in a window set your desktop to 1024x768 & have a colour depth of 16 bit/hi colour. That should make it appear correctly

Excalibor,
I almost miss this one... if you have a JUMP store near your home, they sell the game also.
And don't forget Slitherine's online shop. The game is multi-language and you will be able to install and play in spanish. As an added bonus, you'll get a marvellous game guide (in english) which is not in the spanish version.
