Sea Transport

As a beginner, I ran thru the Polish part of the tutorial about 5 times before I got Warsaw in two turns. Then I ran thru the whole war to do some more learning, using a Mediterranean strategy. Finished that and now I thought I would try a Sea Lion to learn some more. Question about the Transport Capacity display. In the screen shot I just transported the three green circled units from France to England, and the red outlined number never changed. I would expect the '2' to have changed but it didn't. It was '2' when the turn started. What have I got myself misunderstanding ?

not 100% sure, but I don;t think it counts transports in Port

You are correct, transports in port do not count against the limit. Transports at sea at the end of your turn will count.

I'm getting a game crash when I mouse click, not very often but still annoying. Usually I've got a turn about 75% completed and when I click the mouse the screen goes black for a second then puts me back to desktop, game is gone. I know its probably something wrong with my machine or a driver or a video card or something, but I thought I would report it.

I've also noticed some slight graphics burps on occasion. The mini map at the center bottom of the screen flickers and shows different things than expected, and there is sometimes a black bar flicker at the top of the screen. I'm using 3.10 on a W7 OS.

I am Axis vs. Computer Allies.

I uninstalled the game and reinstalled, then re-added the v3.10, but am still getting the same results.

I managed to catch the mini-map glitch:

Same as above but zoomed in:

Try updating your drivers - especially your display adaptors. I had a similar problem with NVIDIA.

Ok, I'll try to update drivers, although I'm not versed in that sort of stuff. I'll run the dreaded Windows Update and see what happens. Thanks !

Ran Windows Update and don't notice any change. I've been careful to not mouse click too fast so I haven't had the game crash recently.

I've been looking for an explanation of the Advanced Game Option 'Averaged Combat Results' but can't locate it. I've searched the manuals that come with the game using F7 and 'Averaged Combat' but there are no results that indicate what the on/off effect is ?

averaged combat results is exactly what it says - literately

depending on setting - say 3, the combat is run three times and the results averaged to get the final result

this is because there are quite large variations possible on a single roll, not good for consistency in the game and has the added benefit of discouraging re rolls

be aware though that even with averaging you can still get some outlyer type results

Thank you ! I'm going thru the Advanced Options and finding no explanation for some of them in the manuals, so I will be back with more questions. Sorry :(

v3.10 - I'm playing as the Axis against the computer, and during the computer Allied turn this message box pops up. The computer is assaulting France [in 1942 with about 10 corps for chrissakes!] and I get this option dialog. First time it appeared I clicked on Yes and the computer landed troops. Second time it appeared I clicked No and the computer did not execute an amphibious assault. Third time it appeared I clicked No again and I'm wondering why I would get the option, is it a way to offset the amount of corps the computer is landing ? [The dialog doesn't appear every time, its only happened three times in one full and one partial game].

the computer is hopeless at the game, this is its worst - amphibious landings, that said this is likely a bug but I don't remember all the little tweaks made to the AI

Well, just talking for the sake of talking, because I have no clue as to how difficult it is to design this program. I do somewhat understand the difficulties in getting the computer to pull off complex maneuvers such as combined arms amphibious operations, but a good start here would be to restrict it to trying such a thing only on May, June and July turns that are fair weather. In all of my games he tries to deliver multiple corps from the US to France starting as soon as the US enters, so he's trying amphibious assaults during the teeth of winter. I'm talking only about Overlord. I assume that there would be different code for each of Torch, Husky, Anvil and Overlord.

But if no one intends to work on the computer opponent, then I guess it doesn't matter. :(

correct

the updates and mods are only for human players, the AI is very poor and to fair its actually a much more complex game than it seems.

but if you want to test yourself, give the AI maximum advantage and see how long it takes you to win as the Axis

The original designer is no longer involved. The mod has been done by hobbyists that concentrate on human opponents.

That is a possibility, but it doesn't help to give the computer better directions, so its not as fulfilling.

Well that is the first I've of heard of that and it tickles my interest. Would the modders be interested in including someone that will concentrate on the computer opponent ?

how good is your coding is likely the first question :-)

the design is not "optimal" by current gaming standards so its a huge amount of work

as to maximum advantage, beating the AI is only about fulfilling your own goals, how fast can I take Russia out - can I get the US down in late 43 - can I clear the map by end of 44

in the end you have to set crazy goals :-)
