Odd observations

Hi all,

Firstly what a great game! Just finished the ECW campaign as Royalists and it was nail biting right to the end. The games were fantastic and I quickly learned not to go toe to toe with the Parliament's Pike and shot. I relied heavily on the horse and dragoons with the foot set far back in a defensible position. Oh the joy of a successful flank charge and break through.
Two minor things popped out at me :
1) When I was pursuing a routed enemy, my troops could not shoot at it when I was adjacent (fair enough) but the AI has no such compunction and repeatedly fired on the pursuing unit.
2) My Cornish Pike enthusiastically pursued broken cavalry (off the table no less) after combat. Is that what was intended? I would have thought a stationary turn to reorganize would be more likely for heavy foot, similar to a fall back.

I am so looking forward to further updates especially more specific, challenging and historical campaign maps. Oh and a take back move button to cover those cases where you leave your flank exposed when you were convinced you had the AP to rotate. Keep up the fantastic work.

All the Best Paddy.

Yes, that is different for pursuers and routers, but is the same for player and AI. The logic would be that you would not risk hitting your men to shoot at enemy who are already routing, but might risk shooting at a formed bodies of pursuers - your routing men are already persona non grata as routers. Shooting at pursuers, however, is at half effect.

There is a small chance (20%) of foot pursuing mounted. If they pursued more than once they must have been dead keen, since the 20% chance applies each turn of pursuit.

Richard,

Many thanks for coming back and may I finally thank you for all the years of fun you provided with DBM/DBR.

1) Makes sense.

2) I must admit the Cornish Pike did perform miracles.

Are the basic tenants of the game drawn from DBR? This would give me a base line for tactics in other periods.

Again many thanks - Paddy

No, they are drawn from FOGR (Field of Glory: Renaissance). If you have not tried that, it has been very well received indeed, even by people who did not like FOGAM (Field of Glory: Ancient/Medieval), and some hardened DBM holdouts.
