There is a message about getting extra prestige if at least 5 core units are placed into zone "C". I placed 6 core units, albeit on the last turn (18) and no extra prestige was given?

If i recall, prestige is given the turn after the units are placed in zone C.

I put them there on turn 17 and got the prestige.

Darn! This is one of those ridiculous unfair cheats by the game! I remember in GC if you occupy a city where one should get a free unit, if it's done on the last turn - no goodies. It would be OK if it was spelled out in the briefing, but this way it's just totally annoying... I could have done it 3 times over, but timed it just for the 18th turn. Now I'm finishing Smolensk and it's a mental pain to go back (plus it's the first playthrough when one really doesn't know much that's the most thrilling and valuable).

The lesson to be learned here is: never wait until last turn to cash in bonus objectives, such as getting "secret" units or anything else that triggers at "end of turn" (because most likely it really triggers at the start of the next one).
