Cheat or Not

I have been confronting an ethical dilemma. While being absolutely against using any well known cheat codes, I am ambiguous about the following: Getting units to surrender is a key tactic especially on the Rommel level. However, very often the units surrounding the "victim" are too strong and will end up obliterating it with no prestige awarded. Similarly, a 14 strength arty might knock off too many HP's before surrender. In order to maximize the prestige award, one might use a lower strength level of the attacking unit (for example use a strength of 1 for a fully suppressed opponent to preserve all HP). I reckon that surrounding a fully suppressed unit and issuing an ultimatum would yield a surrender in real life. One can certainly contemplate that a commander might be able to use his discretion in how much force from a given unit he might apply in any given situation (i.e. fire a "3" worth of guns when 14 are at his disposal). Hence, I am leaning towards having the flexibility to apply the force necessary/ appropriate in any give situation. Thoughts?

Force surrender using the least damaging units is not cheating it is smart and it is the key to dominating in mp and building up needed prestige in regular game.

I use surrender sometimes to collect prestige but it can be useful as a combat tactic in its own right eg as a good way to dispose of heavily armoured low ammo enemies (eg IS1). I try to include a strat bomber attack (two if needed) to reduce ammo to 1, so even if I don't force surrender, as long as it fires back it will be stuck on 0 ammo and unable to resupply with 3 or more units in contact.
Half track mounted troops, Italian auxiliaries, damaged experienced units that are too expensive to repair during the scenario, or bridge layers are all ideal for the final attack on a surrounded unit to get the surrender.

Maybe I wasn't clear - if you have only strong units at your disposal, go to a cheat key and lower temporarily the strength until surrender, then restore the original strength.

Strictly speaking using the cheat codes is cheating, but it's a game and if you are OK with it then why not?
I use cheat codes in some circumstances, although I use them sparingly. For example, I'll sometimes use all equipment to get a specific or historic mix of forces (eg kradschutzen or a Panzer 3 in 1939). The two others I use are the fuel cheat for when I mean to move a plane with low fuel, but get distracted, and restoring lost strength when I decide I don't want to attack with a plane (eg due to AA or fighters) but press the attack button anyway.
