Armour classification

Is there a definition anywhere of what constitutes a certain armour class? Heavy armour is pretty obvious, but where do lamellar, scale, horn curaisse, laquered hard wood etc fit in?

I'm getting bored of the selection of armies available and am putting together a Samurai list. I'm guessing most of the Bushi will fit into the armoured or protected category. Protected seems too light though but will people protest at armoured?

Armour classification is a bit of an art rather than being a set of rigid definitions - but see the definitions on page 129 - and is influenced by getting the right result and "feel" between contemporary enemies.

Bushi can, I think, fit into both Proetcted and Armoured - quite possibly really depending on how many of their followers you assume in any BG, and the followers armour changed over time as well.

BTW if you are thinking of using a DB list as a basis use the DBMM one as the DBM list is a bit cack really.

Ah, missed P 129. Ta:-) I haven't got DBMM Bk 3 but I have a fair idea where Samurai went in that book. I'm not looking at longbow for the Bushi!

mounted longbows pretty much have to be Bow or Bow* depending on the proportion of the weapon. as for armour personally I would see samurai as armoured possibly even heavy armoured with asigeru being protected or armoured The best thing is to red the definition in the back of the main rule book and go on the relative weight of armour as against possible historical opponents

Also, if you read the armor descriptions, you will notice the emphasis placed on shields, which is a big disadvantage for the Japanese. What would be armoured with a shield will often be just protected on its own.

So I would expect many Protected with the option for Armoured, and followers on their own and monks possibly unprotected.
