Basing for 20mm

so the other day I was in my local hobby shop and came across the 1:72nd scale plastic minis - Imperial romans to be specific. For 50$ on the nose I got enough miniatures to make a good sized army! The details good, I really like the proportions on them and I'll be back next week to pick up gauls and germans as a same scale opponent. Now I have to decide basing and just wondering what other people might be up to for this scale? I'm leaning towards basing them on 40mm like 15's as I prefer to have troops like legionaires tightly packed on thier bases. Any ideas?

I know what you mean as I have Indians in 20mm. However, they look better on 60 mm bases IMO even if you have to put extra figures on to give a good close order feel to some regular troops. For some reason, 20mm vs 25mm figs in a game looks ok whereas 20mm vs 15mm looks like giants v dwarfs!

My 20mm HAT Punic War figures are all based for 15mm FOG. I like the close packed look.
I have a 20mm Gallic / Brit Army (a motley collection of old Airfix, Revel, Esci and Italerai) which were originally based as 25mm for DBM. I have now rebased them as 15mm but also made sufficient 25mm sabot bases, with an extra figure on each end as ‘bookends’. My Gauls can now fight against both my 20mm Republican Romans and 25mm Early Imperial Romans!
