Japan, at the end of 15th century.
For almost two hundred years the central power of the Ashikaga Shogunate has been progressively eroded by rebellious local daimyo. Decades of struggles among the warlords have divided the country and now they verge upon open war.
With the succession to the shogunate in doubt and a nation in economic distress. It is a time of reckoning for the noble families and their retainers, the Samurai.
This is the time of great and ambitious lords, a time of honour and betrayal. This is the time of the nation at war.
This is the Senkoku Jidai!
Sengoku Jidai: Shadow of the Shogun is a turn-based tactical and strategic game set during this turbulent age. Made by a former modder of Pike and Shot: Campaigns, this title is a pure fresh air in the wargaming experience. The game’s intent is to reproduce with high fidelity the Japanese Way-of-War of that time, thanks to an efficient UI and deep gameplay.
After months of hard work by the developer Byzantines Games the game is finally ready to open its gates to Beta Testers!

How does this game differ from the mod which is available for Pike and Shot Campaigns. Also is this game available for PC ? One of the sites only mentions Mac.

My mod only has skirmish mode. Sengoku Jidai has historical battles and campaigns. There are new 3D models and reworked textures. Additional non-Japanese factions. We now have generals in the battlefield. Something missing from Pike and Shot Campaigns.

You can give details of the campaign, or if it will be a great campaign?
We will also have government and clan options (alliances, weddings, vassals, etc ...)?; there will be trade and economy options?
Thank you and congratulations for the game, is a much awaited title.

It's basically the same campaign system as Pike and Shot.
Three historical settings and one sandbox.
The sandbox has a few more options. Choose your side and the enemy side. There are random neutral clans on the map which both you or the AI can convince to join by gifting (spend your money on the neutral clan instead of recruiting troops). But they don't always join you so it's a risk. But once they join you get their territory and army which is worth the cost. Though they might be able to switch sides in the future.

This sounds fantastic, congrats to all involved!
So methinks this is a standalone game, which hopefully means we'll see expansions incorporating some colonial Euopean powers into the mix? Perhaps India ( and finally some elephants)... Cheers! Cant wait to see how leaders are represented.. personal combat too, nice touch...

Finally we're gonna have a decent Sengoku era tactical game! Generals units it's a feature really welcomed (and strongly missed on P&S imho)

Anyway I would prefer wait some month more but have a campaign system with a couple of brand new features from P&S, at least....

There are some changes in the code and game rules which are more appropriate for Asian warfare so it ends up as a standalone game rather than an expansion.

How do Generals work and what is their effect in this game? I would really like to see at least a little command and control in P&S.

Leaders are embedded in the units. But you can move them around to other units under their command.
Leaders have stats: Command Range and Duelling.
1) They "coordinate" the units under their command. Units out of command range lose the free 45 degree turn. You will get to know the significance of this once you play a lot of Pike and Shot. This means it takes the units a longer time to position themselves. Command range is based on their stats.
2) They provide close combat POA
3) They rally troops.
4) They may seek out other generals and fight in duels. This is where the duelling skill kicks in. Some generals are better fighters than others.
Loss of a general will force a morale check on the subordinate units nearby.

All units are assigned to a particular command prior to deployment. This cannot be switched, so if during deployment you move them too far away from their general they are likely to be out of command range. It is therefore wise to keep the original commands together. This is particularly true of Japanese armies, because their generals are treated as "ally-generals" and cannot influence units in other commands. The exception to this is the C-in-C. However, commonly he is in an immobile Honjin HQ, so can't move forward with the army.
I would also add that generals have a positive effect on the morale of nearby units, but only while their own unit is in close combat - thus inspiring their nearby units.
When their unit is in close combat, even if they are not fighting a due against an enemy general, there is a risk of them being killed or incapacitated, which will result in a cohesion test for nearby units.
They "coordinate" the units under their command. Units out of command range lose the free 45 degree turn.
This may not sound very significant, but in practice it can be very inconvenient indeed. Even if you have played a lot of Pike and Shot, you may not have noticed how often the free 45 degree turn comes into play.

Sounds great! Any chance of P&S adopting this in the future?

It could certainly be done at some point.

This all sounds pretty damn cool, especially the loss of the 45 degree turn if out of range. ( would like to see this in P&S too someday, he he)
Now, what/who are Ikki Ikki?
