Heat-seeking mortars?

Was playing against someone that I hadn't played against before. I had unloaded some guys into forest (out of LOS) and moved deeper in. Encountered no-one on the way. Guys were not adjacent nor did they advance in a straight line.

Enemy did not have air support, so I was somewhat surprised when both units were accurately mortared, suppressed and then attacked by enemy units coming from different directions - straight onto my guys. Then it happened to another unit in another forest the next turn as well. :?

Must've been heat-seeking mortars, right? Or perhaps an opponent with super-vision. 8)

Puzzling...

 Very...

Only thing I can think of is even though the tiles showed as Forest tiles, maybe LOS was not setup correctly and they were really open ground?

that, or x-ray vision

When mortars fire they do briefly give away there position whilst firing then become hidden again if you opponent rememberd where you fired from could explain it which map was it

He mortared my inf, not the other way around, so no flashes to give away my position.

And LOS errors on TWO different units? Unlikely.
