LOS and Artillery

Is it possible to fire over the heads of your troops if you are at the bottom of a slope and the enemy is at the top?

So I had the 'smart' idea when faced with a battlefield where the enemy had to come over the brow of a height 100 hill to put a line of troops to block them at the bottom so my cannons could fire up over their heads. When I do this though I get 'LOS blocked by troops or fortifications'. At other times though I seem able to fire onto hills if no soldiers are in the way.

So what are the rules regarding LOS and artillery, and is it ever possible for see what the actual LOS is by using the visibility button?

Thanks!

No
So what are the rules regarding LOS and artillery
Artillery on higher ground can shoot over any friendly or enemy units that are not in the square immediately in front of them. Artillery can shoot over light foot or commanded shot on the flat provided that they are more than 2 squares from the artillery. Medium and Heavy Artillery can shoot over enemy artillery. (Manual section 9.3.4).

Sadly not. The processing required to do this for every square on the map, taking into account intervening units, would slow the game too much.

Thank you so much!

I should just start one thread and put all my questions there I guess....
