Quality Rerolls in a battleline...

I meant to bring my rulebook in the office so I could quote the page # on this, but I forgot it stumbling out the door!

My question relates to quality rerolls and being in a battleline. I read something that essentially said when using quality rerolls in a battleline that you always use the lowest quality reroll for the battleline. Granted I read this late and tend to hallucinate allot as it is, but can someone clarify if this is indeed the rule.

I mean if you have poor and elite troops as part of the same battle line, will the elite unit be rerolling 6's? Does this have an effect on attaching a Command stand to a unit that is part of a battle line?

Hi!

You dont do rerolls in combat for the whole battleline, just the specific BG the commander is with. In terms of re-rolls for battlelines, i understand you roll for the lowest quality - as is proper. A team is only as strong as its weakest link. I would suggest you keep the elites seperate in Battlelines from the poor troops and increase your chances.

Hope this helps.

There are very few situations where a battleline will acutally make a CMT but if you do then you can only use the quality of the worst troops in the battleline. I suspect that the most likely situation would be battlelines including artillery or battle wagons as all advances are simple for a battleline (because a battleline must include a general) and battlelines can only do advances (see simple and complex moves P41).

If anyone can think of another situation where a battleline would have to make a CMT then that too would also follow this rule.

So being in a battleline does not affect quality rerolls for close combat or Impact?

No it does not. Battlelines are useful for movement purposes only.
