I'm curious are the building texts and others in the data folders leftovers from previous titles or features that got axed?

Just junk files to encourage conspiracy theories...

See, when the Romans conquered Egypt, they found the secret knowledge about the aliens who kidnapped Elvis, and shot JFK.

Obviously, those files are evidence of this. I mean, it's all clear, right? ;)

I suspect that some of this was related to the Legion II origins of Arena, and was never cleaned up. I hope it doesn't all go to waste.

As for conspiracies, see my earlier post on Santa Claus under the OFF TOPIC / General Discussion / Merry Christmas thread...

Ave again lcjr,

I'm glad you've raised this topic, it's saved me doing so.

I would like to bring to the members' attention eleven "very interesting" txt files contained in the data directory of the installed version of Legion Arena on your pc:-

01. tweaks.txt
02. squads.txt
03. localisation.txt
04. formations.txt
05. experience.txt
06. bonusdef.txt
07. unitspds.txt
08. proxysquads.txt
09. prizes.txt
10. orders.txt
11. mappurses.txt

I won't say any more at this stage, form your own opinions.

Vale

Most of those text files sound very familiar to me from when I was modding Gates of Troy.

I have to say, I love that Spartan/GoT engine. If there was any possible way to upgrade the tactical system to something with a little more control, it'd be absolutely unbeatable.

I confess I have no idea why Slitherine's games are not a runaway commercial success. The games themselves are just superb, the design decisions are far more intelligent than those of the corporate code mills, the production values are very good to excellent. Maybe it's all in the advertising? Maybe it's the way the corporate giants have all the retail chains locked up in exclusivity contracts that prevent them from selling Indy games?

I don't know.

But it's a shame.

Hmm, wandered a bit off topic here, haven't I?
