Can troops in ambush count as support for cohesion tests?

Hi ,

how can I claim a support from a man who is so brave that I must search him below a brush area or behind a tree

Or to put another way.

If there are no bases on table, how can the BG possibly have upto half of it's original BG size behind it? An ambush marker does not count as a base...

Also, ambushers until placed lack the fixed position or direction necessary to determine rear support.
