The story

King Karl looked out over his settlement. Busiris had never experienced such an economic and population boom.
He was somewhat confused...what to do? The food was running low...he had to build more farms...invest in uppgrades of the old ones...and to build more structures producing bricks to supply the uppgrades.
The neighbouring settlements of Sais and Tanis stood ready to provide the necessary food and bricks.

King Karl: Give orders to start construction of the farms and brick makers!

Counsellor: Immediately my king!

After a couple of months the construction was finshed.

Counsellor: My king, we have finished the farms and brick makers.

King Karl: Excellent. What else do I have to do? Ive heard rumours of increasing unemployment. Is that correct?

Counsellor: Yes my king...unfortunately.

King Karl: Thats unfortunate...we have no more jobs currently available. But....we could use more conscripts to bolster our army. Give orders to start training 5 regiments of peasants. And leave me alone....I need to think.

Counsellor: Right away, my king.

King Karl: And stop calling me "my king"....its tiresome to write down all the time....

Counsellor: As you wish, my king.

King Karl: How many times do i have to tell you?

Counsellor: At least one more time, my king.

The Counsellor left. Leaving the king feeling a little bit odd. He was king of Lower Egyptiians after all. But he did not care about the formularities that much. He thought himself a wise and loving king. Allways wishing the best for his people.

The next month the army took shape. It still needed polishing and trimming to function as an army, but it was a start.
Yes, a start. A start of something new. King Karl summoned his generals and explained to them his plans. He had been working on them all alone for many months and now needed the expertise of his trusted generals.

King Karl: I have a plan. My Empire is growing. Food and Bricks are flowing in from every corner and we have a stabil tax income to support some trade. Trading for needed raw materials such as tin and copper, some gems and wood. But this cant hold on forever. My people are allready grumbling over the current tax rate.
We need either to find copper and tin...wich is hard since all deposits are in the hands of other rulers...far away.....or...get the hand on a gold mine...wich is nearest. and also in other rulers hands. And they wont, for sure, let us just take them. Here is my plan. We are bordering to a small Kingdom named Troglodyticae. They are in the possesion of 4 gold mines..if my diplomat is correct. And I am sure they wont refuse us borrowing one. Or would they?

General nr1: Of course they would??

King Karl: You ass....I didnt expect otherwise either. Why do you think I have raised an army that is almost complete?
To wipe your butt? No....to conquer the settlement of Arsinoe.

General nr2: A most excellent plan my leige. But it is heavily guarded. What about their strength? They may be counter-attacking too?

King Karl: Not with my new weapon...the javelin....I have in secret ordered 3 regiments of this new unit to begin training.

General nr3: Ah...I see.

King Karl: See what? huh?

Generla nr1 nr2 nr3: ?!

King Karl: Nevermind. Report back in 2 months.

The king was eager to start the war. The gold Arsinoe would provide could pay for many expenses. And he could lower the tax rate. Making his subjekts more happy.

2 months later The crusade began. King Karls army consisting of 5 peasent levy and 3 huphsu slew the defenders of Arsinoe and took the settlement. With the gold mina intact.
King Karl did a summersault in joy. He had secured gold for his empire. A month later, an ambassador of the Troglodyticae arrived to discuss "Recent actions against their kingdom".

He was sent back....in a bag.

Next day a decleration of war came.

King Karl regret he treated the ambassador so harsch.

King Karl: Damn...a war...even as we speak their armies are marching towards our borders.

General nr2: But we have information regarding their "so called" armies. They have sent only peasents supported with some auxillia.

King Karl: Aha...our hupshu will take care of them.

3 Months later the Troglodyticaes army was crushed and routed.

King Karl had planned the next stage of the war. To assault and take the fort of Quseir.
With the fort in Egyptian control...another gold mine would be secured. Resulting in better trade and better expansion.

King Karl raised another army consisting of auxillia, militia spearmen and hupshu. Force marshing them againts the fort. But this time the Troglodyticae where prepared. But in the end, the superior quality of the egyptians helped them prevail.

King Karl did a backflip in joy. The gold was important. And now he had 2 mines.
But this succeses where of minor importance...the Libyans had been increasingly aggresive towards his Empire.
Stating that they intervened to "protect" the balance of power they declared war and sent 2 huge armies towards the Egyptian settlement of el-Ashmunein. The settlement fell..but taking 1 of The Libyans army with them. And considerable reduced the 2nd. The settlemnt was recaptured after bitter fighting 4 months later.

To get his revenge King Karl demanded another army raised with the new units. The Apiru and sheridan.
They were expensive...but with all that gold he received from his mines he couldnt care less.

5 Months later...the new and powerful army marched west towards Tjehnyu.
The Libyans...weakened fighting The Meshweshi...could not hold against Egypts army.

Another settlement under my rule. King Karl was pleased with the outcome of the war. He was now the ruler of an ever growing Empire and he would become a very powerful man. The wheel allowed chariots to be built. Resulting in a stronger an more versatile army than ever before. The Upper Egyptians....close friends of his begged for help against the The Meshweshi...but he could not afford another war. King Karl was allready fighting on 2 fronts.
This was to have ever lasting comsequenses.

He now saw the mistake of too rapid expansion. His people was fed up with all the recruitment and so...he was forced to recede from the frontlines. He would come back.

After 6 moths of non recruitment, managing his empire and defending his borders he was back. King Karl.
He now had plans on wiping out the entire Libyan Kingdom. And then would turn to face the last strongholds of The Troglodyticae. Whilest The Meshewish faced problems on their own in the south.

The time was right.

Now the next step will be???

This is my favorite nation. The Lower Egyptians.
This short? story tells of how i usually expand early in the game.

Sorry for my bad english. Im a Nord (swede that is) ^^

BTW does anyone play this great and addictive game anymore? :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :P
