Just when I got the breakthrough and started beating the AI, the AI decides to crash the game!

Please install the 1.66 Beta patch, as this one should be fixed by it.

Tried that and now I can't launch the saved game at all!

same error message or a new one?

No message! As soon as I highlight the saved game and click on "launch", the game goes off!

but if you start a new one it works ok?

as maybe the save game has got corrupted etc?

only way to test that, is if try a different save, or a new game tbh, or wait for a better reply from support staff, either way good luck

My problem was resolved. It turned out to be a missing graphics file that was installed when I clicked on "check for updates" in the game's menu.
