Why is the Lysander flying around

I am playing Sea Lion, and half way through the Eagle Day scenario.
My Me109's and Me110"s have on ccasion caught a few British Lysanders out and about, and I have shot them down.
The Lysander was not a fighter or bomber and its primary role was recon and dropping of British Spies and supplies to the resistance. Is that what they are doing in this Scenario?
Why are they flying around? Observation?
Thanks
Halder

To give the AI extra pairs of eyes for its fighters and bombers.
There is an Avron recon as well.

Does it affect the scenario gameplay or outcome if I shoot down all these RAF recon aircraft?
If not, I will just leave them alone.

As long those recons are not present in zone A or B, they won't affect the outcome.

I do not know the map, but as a general rule you should shut down vision of the ennemy (whichs means recon units and also bunkers/strong points).
This way you can drive them to ambush.

Because the AI has no memory whatsoever, its decisions are based purely on what it can see. Skilled players let it see hardly anything, which leads to it often not attacking even where it has an advantage. Giving it aireal recon was supposed to help with that. Unfortunately, it has only a very crude idea of how to use them and leaves them undefended. They barely make a difference but it's better than nothing for the AI.
Shoot them down.
