LF Shooting in difficult terrain

Do LF countas in ranks for shooting when in difficult going ?
Reason I ask is that it game up this evening. My MF archers chased down some LF archers in a Forest. The LF claimed 1 dice per 2 bases, as per the rules. No mention of ranks here, juts the dice for LF are 1 per 2 bases. So a BG of 6 gets 3 dice.
The MF of course could only claim 4 dice (being in a BG of

as in the difficult they are resticted to front rank only, as mentioned in the terrain descriptions. As the dice allocation stipulated 1 per 2 in the 2nd rank these were lost because of the terrain.
Did we play this correct ?
Thanks,
Steve

To me it sounds like you would have had 3x2 LF (with 1 dice per 2 bases with 3 front rank bases that is 1 die rolled) vs. 4x2 MF archers (with 4 front rank bases less 1 per 3 for disorder is 3 dice rolled).

Shootig can only be in one rank in forests, so the LF get one dice per 2 front rank bases, and the MF get i dice per front rank base minus one per 3 for being disordered. SO....
The LF get one dice
The MF get 3 dice
and of course both sides get a -POA for shooting at troops in cover.

Ta.
Odd that - my reference to the size of the MF BG turned into a smiley. I presume as it used '6' and ')' next to each other.

I assume that applies to support shooting in impact phase too ?
2 legionary battle groups of 9, 3by3 with 3rd rank LF support shooters. Both hit by a BG of 6 cats in a line. Had the cats hit one BG the 3rd rank would only provide 1 dice as they are LF. But hitting both legionary BGs give 6 supporting shooters for 3 dice.
Is this correct ?

No. Any third rank LF archer base shoots in the impact pase if the base of foot they are supporting is contacted frontally by mounted.

So 1 dice per supporting LF base with a base directly to front impacted by enemy mounted?

No, it is still one dice per two bases with LF. However, the count is rounded up. Sorry, I haven't got a page reference. As base loss in melee is by BG, I would think that if the 6 cataphracts hit two groups of three wide supported foot then there will be two LF shooting dice for each BG. Each has three shooters halved and rounding up to 2 dice.

Hey, what RogerG just said may well be right and I have been playing this wrongly

. Haven't got a rulebook to hand either to check!

The QRS is enough. You get 1 dice per LF in a file that was contacted and THEN you lose 1 dice per 2. So a group w/ 3 supporting LF shooting, has 2 dice in the impact phase. Easy.
