Taking a second full GC East campagne for the 2nd time, again I notice that heroes are given to artillery that dont give them any benefit. The first two I was very glad: +1 range!!!
But then: +1 defense, +1 spot and +1 spot. Dont think any players are around that use artillery for spotting...
Is there a cheat code to change them into +1 move, etc?

Nope, but you can reload the last axis autosave, nothing is more irritating than a spotting hero on arty. Or initiative hero on a bomber...

agreed. At least with 2 spots, you could convert to the best armoured arty there was and use it as a kind of scout.

You can also use a save game editor (which I managed to find on some forums a while ago) but it's kind of iffy - doesn't work sometimes. Or if you know a little bit about hex editors you can do those changes manually yourself after studying the save game files.

Personally, I refuse certain Hero bonuses as they don't make any sense in some cases and do not really consider that cheating To make myself feel better, I use a virtual dice roller and depending on the result pick a different type of bonus

I would say the mechanics of awarding those bonuses is a bit flawed...or there could be an option to actually manage a pool of heroes in your core and assign them to various units, with some kind of "hero cap" to prevent having and army full of heroes
