A quick question: Does a road give any movement advantage?

I am not sure as to the game, but in my part of Kentucky: definitely not!

Only where it passes through otherwise difficult terrain, or for limbered artillery.

2) Sorry macdonncadh about the roads in Kentucky but as long as they get you home, that's what matters!
