Why so few heroes?

I've played Aevinwode till it's got great Power status and still only have the two heroes i got near the start. Is it possible to get more than two? Will heroes be more common in 2.0?
EDIT - i could be quite happy with the small number of heroes if it wasn't for having to autocalc all battles where there isn't a hero. The hero abilities are nice, but not nearly as useful as being able to fight out battles rather than autocalc them.
Would be nice to get more heroes as you become more powerful though, or else as a reward for staying true to your kingdom's values - e.g if you were a good kingdom and behave accordingly you'd be more likely to get another hero offering to join you
