The ancients who named this sector ‘Polaris’ sure had a unique sense of humor. Polaris - the bright star, the star of hope and faith. Well the Polaris sector has precious little of either; just a wilderness of gas, stars, and supernovae soaked in treachery, oppression, and the lust for power.

With Polaris Sector, developer SoftWarWare is bringing a fresh take on the 4X genre. Obviously, exploring systems with hundreds of stars, exploiting resources and negotiating treaties with other alien factions are essentials for building an empire. However this time you will have to give special attention to the mechanics of technological progress and warfare. Your engineers and scientists provide a high level of flexibility and ultimately you will have a plethora of options for designing warships and finding the right balance between fundamental and applied sciences. Will you be visionary enough to build weapons and research technologies that will make the difference in battles fought decades from now?

As I can see Polaris Sector is a remake of an old strategy Remember Tomorrow released in 1998. Unfortunately it was never translated into English and only old russian gamers remember it. Now classic RT is distributed for free. You can download it from softwarware.com

It was the best strategy in its genre, was particularly notable for the system of science and engineering of ships.

This is THE Remember Tomorrow Remake/ aka Galaxia Remember Tomorrow. I only saw Polaris Sector and nearly overlooked it because I thought it was YA4X (Yet Another 4x) but Remember Tomorrow is among the things I eagerly await ever since trying out the fully playable and completely feature full alpha with awesome ship design and carrier combat. This should still be available in modDB for download. Alpha 16d . It is so good I have been yelling shut up and take my money for a long time.

AFAIK this is by one single Russian guy who has been working on this as a labor of love for over a decade. Major props for pure dedication, and the game hits most of sweet spots. Only wish we could design subcomponents too, as in Aurora, but Aurora's carrier battles are tedious to play when you can only advance 5 seconds at a time due to issues.

There was no way I was able to link Polaris Sector to Remember Tomorrow, not sure why the big rename. I assume it is for license issues, but I thought the creator retained the license?

I much preferred Remember Tomorrow, as it is very poetic. Galaxia Remember Tomorrow is too long, and Polaris Sector does not immediately grab attention.

The decision for name change was because "Remember Tomorrow" is more difficult to find on Internet. But maybe there will be some mentioning later that it is the "Remember Tomorrow" game.

Ok, you've got my attention! Polaris Sector (apparently a descendant of Remember Tomorrow) looks to be another fantastic "ride".

I signed-up to support Polaris Sector Beta Testing.

I previously participated in the Space Program Manager Beta Testing and Early Access Program. If you played Space Program Manager as the NASA Administrator, you may have hired me, Greg Mack, as one of your Astronauts

I have two questions:

1] How may I obtain the Alpha version (A post in this thread by Kongxinga referred to it as modDB, Alpha 16d).

2] Another post in this thread by Ufnv stated "Remember Tomorrow is more difficult to find on the internet". Does anyone know what this means?

I mean if to type "Remember Tomorrow" in Google, there will be also links to another game. Plus, "Remember Tomorrow" does not make it clear this is a space game.

Thank you for responding to my queries.

I inquired because you made reference to the Alpha Release . . . I will "sit tight" and wait till Beta Testing gets underway.

Regarding an internet search for "Remember Tomorrow", I see your point -- 99% of the hits on my search were not what I was seeking.

I am vaguely familiar with "Remember Tomorrow" but never played the game . . . and yet while reading the entire thread of this post, it was the title "Remember Tomorrow" coupled with the comments and screen shots that lured me in to explore this thing . . .

. . . Kongxinga's use of the word "poetic" was quite appropriate bringing to mind elegant, symbolic, imaginative, creative, . . . . .
