The errata for 1805-7 French says Guard can replace similar core troops .

Clearly that can't be exactly like for like.
Do the mean line infantry replace line? Or light cav replace light cav?

It says Guard , not Guard infantry only.

I would go with same troop type, reg guard infantry for line infantry guard light horse for line light horse etc easier solution is to not play such a confusing nation, and instead take Prussians who have a much nicer shade of blue uniform
