Capturing a Victory hex/Objective

As a newbie with about 2 weeks experience I came across something today while in the Danzig North scenario that I wanted to get clarified. Back when I played the old Avalon Hill board games, I seem to remember that you were credited for a capturing a city or other hex by being the last one who physically was in that hex. It appears that here in PzC, that to be credited for capture of a Victory hex (city or bridge hex), you must actually stop on that hex and remain for a turn, not just roll thru it. The manual does not precisely specify. Is this really the case ?
Thx,
Col. Bob Neuman

Yes you need to stop in the hex you want to capture. Recon units can take the hex using their recon movement by taking a brief stop in the hex and then they are allowed to continue to move. Just "driving" through the hex field doesn't work.

As a further caution, your unit must be an infantry, recon, tank or anti-tank unit to capture the hex. An artillery or AA unit won't do it. However, if you have an AA or artillery unit which can "switch" to an anti-tank "mode" then you can capture the hex. Just be sure to make the switch before moving the unit. Finally, if there's any doubt, the hex isn't "yours" until you see the flag change. Good luck!

"Hauptmann, the villagers didn“t allow us to raise our flag."
"Gefreiter, remember to lower your Flak first next time."

Thx for the info. All forces have been informed to henceforth do a sightseeing tour in any city/facility that they have captured before continuing their quest...

Have another question about this: suppose it is a city in which new units appear, if there is no unit around to capture the city, does simply leaving it on the city hex by another unit (say SdKfz 7/1) for one turn prevent the AI to still use that city to build a unit?

Yes leaving any kind of land unit will prevent them from buiding on that city.
A naval unit or air unit will not prevent however.

Ah thanks - this will expand my opportunities...
