Found in the basement a BUNCH of EIR minifigs painted and ready to protect the Empire. My question is this are Axullia (early Dacian War) Medium or Heavy. I cannot wait for the new roman book before rebasing.

Auxilia:
1.) Auxiliary Infantry. There are two types.
The first type was during the Time of the Roman Republic until the end of the Allied (Italian) War. They actually were called Auxiliary legions and they were recruited from the Allied Italian provinces (Etruria, Lucania, Campania etc...). They were lighter armoured than the Roman legions but they still were heavy Infantry. This type of Auxilia disappeared after the end of the Allied war ended resulting that all Italians who actively did not fought against the Romans received the Roman citizenship. Troops recruited form them were integrated into the legions.

The second type is recruited form the provinces outside Italy. They were depending on the province light (Gaul, Iberian), medium (Syrian, Cappadocian) and heavy (Thracian heavy spearmen, Jewish heavy infantry, Greek and Macedon hoplites) infantry.

In the game I think they represent the Allied auxiliary Infantry which you can regard as medium to "lighth" heavy infantry. Depending on the promotion level I managed to wipe out with them on Open Ground a lower promotion level heavy infantry (Battle of Bagradas), and on rough ground they are irresistable. (Battle of Vadimo Lake, Pydna, Africa in the Hard and Very Hard levels)

2.) Auxiliary Cavalry.
Heavy Cavalry. Exclusively recruited outside Italy. The most favored were the Galatian and later the Gallic cavalry. Later on from Ceasar's time onward the German Ubei and Sugambric cavalry was added to the collection. They completely replaced the roman cavalry mostly because of their very poor performance during the secong punic war against Hannibal. At the conclusion of this war Publius Scipio used Gallic and Numidian Cavalry exclusively at Zama.

Light Cavalry. A later addition to the Roman miltary machine. From the rise of Publius Scipio first the Numidians (through their young king Massinissa) then Illirian from Ceasar's time (volunteers during the Civil war against Pompeius).

3.) Auxiliary Archers
The Romans used during the age of the Repuclic exclusively Cretean "heavy" Archers. So in the game to "promote" the Auxiliary Archers to Skirmish is not quite correct. But it is a game and a great one.[/img]

So Eastern/Western archers be MF or still LF?
Also normal spear armed Auxillia with chainmail shirt large shield would be be heavy?

So the EIR would be screened by LF (Slingers) with Legions (HF) with archers (MF) and Auxillia (HF) on flank. I cannot wait for this book to come out!
