Intercept Questions

From the above photo (a recreation) we have a few questions.

1. When Unit B Charges unit D, does unit C's intercept allow Unit D to Intercept Unit A

2. Can unit B, if the charge is cancelled, evade?

3. Provided Unit D is allowed to intercept, what is the interaction between unit A and D

This is how we played it.

Unit C cancels Unit B's Charge, Unit C is allowed to evade.

Unit D then declares an intercept, but because they do not have enough movement to wheel and prevent Unit A from striking them in the flank, we do not allow the intercept.

Had Unit D been closer, they would have wheeled enough to make A contact them in the front with a 1 base contact.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

I think you everything you said is correct in concept, assuming your C interception cancels B's charge as a legitimate flank attack, leaving D free to declare interception of A if it can (which you said it lacks the move for).

C starts in a position from which a flank charge in your turn could normally be launched with a small wheel. However, interception moves are straight forward - they can only wheel as necessary to avoid being hit in the flanks themselves. If you move straight forward to contact you hit the front corner, not the flank side or rear, which counts as a frontal charge and stops B but does not cancel B's charge. Therefore D still suffers from having a charge declared against it (even if not consummated), and cannot declare any intercept.

I was part of this battle, and Im not sure we lined C up properly from memory. Either way, that is good to remember.

The part that now confuses me, is the reference that because the intercept would hit the front, the charge is not canceled? Is that correct?

Thanks,

Clay

Yes. It is flank or rear charge intercepts that cancel charges. Frontal intercepts may stop the charge, but not cancel it. The target was still charged and therefore can't itself intercept.
