AAR after finishing both campaigns

Overall, very enjoyable. Especially as you learn some of the systems like efficiency, supply, etc.

Now, it could be because I played the American campaign first on the middle level, but the Japanese campaign seemed much easier. I finished the Melbourne scenario in 59ish of the 100 turns and I was being cautious.

So overall, I have these bits of advise for the AI (both campaigns)

1) If you are on defense, defend! Many times I didn't attack the ai because I knew they would attack me with worse results for them. Sucker them over a river/stream, etc. <Spoiler> Melbourne, taking the US base to free Japanese hostages. I had nothing to counter those tanks. Yet they ran forward and even tried to cross the stream and where whittled away. If the defense just stayed back, I was toast.

2) DO NOT USE FIGHTERS FOR GROUND ATTACK! <Spoiler> Melbourne scenario, they bring to P-80 Shooting Stars and use them to strafe arty with an AA unit next to it. Then they do it again! I had nothing much to take them down, but by their own stupidity they did next to nothing. Earlier it was the same with P-51s, etc. All I had to do was protect my bombers and let the AI whittle away their advantages.

3) Might be a bug. Melbourne scenario I saw a strength 3 B-29 before midway in the scenario. I never did anything and seemed to leave as it disappeared. Later I saw a strength 10 on the east side of the map. When I went back, it disappeared too! I was expecting a nuke, but neither unit was and neither bombed me.

Overall, the game is fun. I don't regret my purchase at all. However, as I said, when defending, the AI is too aggressive. Once I figure out the long game of taking my time, it became very easy, even when outnumbered and outclassed in the Japanese campaign.

Hopefully we will see some new campaigns, AI improvements, bug fixes. That said, I am a bit miffed that I finished the Japanese campaign before the fix of turning off hex grid sides. Showing hex sides spoils the beauty of the game!

Cheers
