Fixing the Archer AT? What makes units turn?

Hey, this may be a tough one, but maybe an experienced modder does know.
I've been trying to fix the Archer so that the cannon is truly rear-mounted, meaning the unit should move like the British Portees and the Deacon with the cannon to the rear and then quickly turn around to fire. As it stands, the Archer moves into the direction its cannon is facing (which it didn't in real life).
Now, I thought just mirroring the icons in the png file (i.e., switching their facing) would fix this, but it doesn't. So I looked at those units that turn to shoot (like the Portees and the Deacon), but there are no unique firing or movement animations for them. In fact, those three share ATlight animations with units that do not turn to shoot. So, is it somehow hard-coded what units turn to shoot or am I overlooking something here? Any ideas?
