A question about POA.

In the last game we have a dilemna about these situation.

We have a bg of heavy foot , impact , swordsmen in melee against a bg of cataphract in front and a bg of light horse in the flank.

We have a + poa for the cataphract for better armour and a - poa for the foot fighting in two direction.

We play a + net poa for cataphract against -- net poa for the foot , is this right ???

My friend say the cataphract must have ++ ???

Thanks for your answer !!!

Your friend was correct. The POAs always balance out. That is to say, if one side has a -- the other must have a ++. Likewise, if one side has a - the other has a +.

As Marc says, in melee the POAs always balance out. So if the cats were on a net +POA, you'd fight on a net -POA. If they ended up on ++, you'd fight on --.

HOWEVER, if two units were shooting at each other this doesn't hold true. So, for example, protected foot archers could be shooting at unprotected double ranked cavalry. The cav will shoot at evens; the foot archers will shoot at ++POA.
