Shifting during rout...

A situation occurred in a club comp game last night and I'm not sure the right decision was made:

A BG routed, turned and ran into a friendly BG. It could avoid these by a sideways one base wide shift but then ran into a 2nd friendly BG, which it couldn't avoid bursting through (it was two bases wide). Does it burst through BOTH friends or just the second it meets? Also, had the second BG met been a single base wide column, could the routers shift another base width on meeting these?

Apologies for the flurry of questions. I've played around 30 games so far but, every game, still keep getting surprised by previously unseen problems.
I've read the rules front to back umpteen times, so it must be my age! :-)

Chris

If you cannot avoid everything with a single shift you do not shift at all.

If it's any consolation Chris I've been playing this game for more years than I care to admit and still struggle to find stuff.

Thank you both.

It is some consolation, Pete. Yes, I come across all sorts of problems but, at least, I'm having fun! :-)

That's the main thing Chris. And keeping asking - it's the best way to learn.

It's in the evade section Chris it's a case of shift if you can to completely avoid, if not don't shift at all. Also bear in mind this is per phase - you can shift again in the JAP
